  • “I think it is high time, we need to take firm action,” said Chahal
  • India and Pakistan are scheduled to play a group match in the World Cup on June 16

India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal stated that the team will comply with whatever decision the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) takes in its meeting on Friday.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) will be keeping a close eye on the BCCI meet involving Committee of Administrators (COA) when they deliberate to finalize India’s position vis-a-vis ICC World Cup 2019.

Chahal reiterated his statement which he had made earlier this week when he called for a strict and a befitting reply to Pakistan for the thousands of lives that have been lost due to cross border terrorism.

“It’s not in our hands, if BCCI says, we will play if they say no then we won’t. I think it is high time, we need to take firm action. I am not saying all people there (Pakistan) are at fault but those who are responsible should be acted against,” Chahal said ahead of the T20I series against Australia.

  • Harbhajan Singh wants India to boycott Pakistan at the ICC World Cup
  • India and Pakistan are scheduled to face-off in Manchester on June 16
  • Sunil Gavaskar wants India to play Pakistan and beat them

India stands to lose the boycott of Pakistan in the forthcoming World Cup, former captain Sunil Gavaskar believes that the country can “hurt” by destabilizing bilateral relations.

The call for full cricket boycott against Pakistan under the leadership of former India spinner Harbhajan Singh has been happening since more than 40 CRPF jawans were killed in a terrorist attack in Pulwama last week. India has to play Pakistan on June 16 during the World Cup.

Gavaskar said to INDIA TODAY, “If India decides to play against Pakistan in the World Cup then who wins? And I am not even talking about the semi-finals and the final. Who will win? Pakistan will win because they get two points . “

“India has defeated Pakistan every time so far in the World Cup, so we are actually getting two points by defeating Pakistan, we can ensure that they do not move forward in the competition.

“(But) I am with the country, whatever decision the government decides, I am totally with him. If the country wants that we should not play Pakistan, then I am with them.”

Government sources have advised against any hurried decision to boycott India’s World Cup 2019 match with Pakistan as a reaction to the Pulwama terrorist attack. After the attack, which witnessed the death of over 40 CRPF personnel, there have been calls from many quarters not only to boycott the World Cup match but also to seek Pakistan’s ban from the tournament. However, Government sources said that could act against India

The bilateral cricket relations between the two countries have been suspended since 2012 and teams last played a full series in 2007.

“Where does it hurt Pakistan,” he said, “he is sad to not play a bilateral series against India. In a multi-national event, this is only the Indian cricket team, who do not play against them, This whole case is needed. If you look at a bit more depth then I can understand that the emotions are going on high.

Gavaskar argued, “What happens when you do not play them? I know that India is strong enough to qualify even after winning those two points.

If the BCCI takes this issue to the ICC, as it is being estimated, and demands to remove Pakistan from the program starting on May 30 in England, then it is more likely to lose.

He said, “They can try but it will not happen because other member countries have to accept this and I do not see this happening. I am not sure that the ICC conference is the right forum.” ICC meetings in Dubai on 2 March.

“Certainly all of us are absolutely down with whatever happened, it is a tragedy, but I am not sure that it will work with the ICC. Other counties say that it is an internal matter between the two countries. And they have to deal with it and do not include us. “

Gavaskar urged Imran Khan to lift the necessary “first step” in order to improve relations with India.

“I have to talk to Imran Khan directly, someone of whom I have admired, which I feel is a friend. Let me tell Imran, ‘When you took over, you said that it is a new Pakistan Is going to be made. “

“You said that ‘India should take the first step and Pakistan will take two steps’, but not as a politician, as an average player, I want to tell you that Pakistan is the first step taken.

“You ensure that there is no infiltration from across the border … You ensure that those people in Pakistan who are causing problems in India should be handed over to them, if not India, then the United Nations. Take two steps and you see the number of friendly steps. ” India will take, “he said.

Like India-Pak cricketers, Gavaskar wants people from both countries to enjoy friendly ties.

“I know that there are many Indian and Pakistani cricketers friends, you (Imran) are my friends, Wasim (Akram) are my friends, Ramiz (king) is my friend, Shoaib (Akhtar) is my friend, we have such a good time Is when we meet in or out of India and I think people of both countries deserve that good time.

“So let’s take that first step, let Naya take this first big step to Pakistan and you will see that India is taking many steps, the love and love that Imran has got in India is incredible.

Gavaskar said, “He has spent a lot of time in the country, he knows better than any other Pakistani, and I believe he is capable of taking these steps.”
